TOP TIPS ON MAKING YOUR DAY HAPPIER
Updated: Jun 18, 2018
Too often i find myself getting caught up on silly things that put me in a state of sadness. I try to practice the below to ensure i have more happier days than sad - life is too short than to be anything but happy after all!
1 “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” – Ben Franklin ”
Set your alarm a little earlier
Wouldn’t you feel so much happier not being rushed in a morning? Being able to eat your breakfast, maybe even go for a run. I promise you it will set you up for your happy day if you set your alarm a little earlier, though it may not seem it as soon as you wake up. I set my alarm for 5am so i can get the early train into the city, grab a flat white and stroll up to work before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. It's crazy how much i get done in that hour before everyone else arrives to the office!
2 Good food = good mood
If you're feeling a little blue, it can be oh so tempting to reach for the comfort food, but it can leave you feeling a little sluggish. Wholesome, healthy foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals will really help boost your mood. A favourite smoothie of mine is what i like to call the Popeye!
I add in a handful of spinach to 200ml of almond milk, throw in half a FROZEN avocado (changed my life when i found out that you could get them frozen!) a banana and a spoonful of wholefoods peanut butter - bellissimo!
3 Treat yo'self!
Go buy those shoes that have been sat on your wish list, or draw a bath, throw in your favourite bath bomb, light some candles and escape in to your book. Don't feel guilty about taking time for yourself.
4 TAKE. A. BREAK.
I know that it’s all too easy to feel the pressure of that looming deadline and stay slummed at your desk, rather than taking the break you so deserve. Trust me, leave your desk today even if it’s for only ten minutes. Go out in the fresh air for a walk, or go do some stretching, grab a coffee with a friend even! When you come back you’ll have a fresh perspective and be able to tackle the afternoon with bells on..
5 “Comparison is the death of Joy” – Mark Twain
Wishing you looked like the girl next to you in the gym isn’t going to help you be happy. Focus on what you’ve accomplished and how far you’ve come in your life – not others!
6 BE THANKFUL
Gratitude is a key ingredient to uplifting your mood, did someone do a favour for you at work today? Show thanks, you might make their day happier too!
7 learn something new
Being inquisitive and finding out something new once a day gives you a sense of achievement. You can get 'fact of the day apps' that will send you a notification each day with cool facts!
For example did you know that J.K Rowling chose the unusual name ‘Hermoine’ in the HP books so young girls wouldn’t be teased for being nerdy!
I really notice a lift in my mood after a work out, it really does make such a difference! Make sure you're doing something you enjoy though, whether that is a spinning class, yoga or taking your dog on a walk!
I've made a habit of before i go to bed, jotting down 3 positive things about the day I've just had. It literally takes 2 minutes but keeps you in the positive mindset!
